NREMT Paramedic Exam Prep & Remediation

30 Hours • Five-Day Course • Designed for 4th Attempt and Beyond

Pelham’s NREMT Paramedic Exam Prep & Remediation course is designed for Paramedic graduates who have completed their initial education but have not yet passed the NREMT Paramedic Certification Examination and are on their forth attempt and beyond.

The course provides the 30 hours of remedial education required before a fourth NREMT examination attempt and is built specifically around preparing students to approach the examination differently the next time.

This is not primarily a skills or field-scenario course.
The emphasis is on identifying knowledge gaps, strengthening weak areas, improving clinical reasoning, working through examination questions, and understanding why an answer is right — or why it is wrong.

Who This Course Is For

This course is intended for Paramedic graduates who have already completed an accredited Paramedic education program but have been unsuccessful on the NREMT Paramedic Certification Examination.

Pelham accepts graduates of other Paramedic programs for remediation beginning after three unsuccessful NREMT examination attempts.
This gives the student’s original Paramedic program the opportunity to provide remediation first.

Students preparing for an earlier examination attempt who are looking for general test preparation should contact their training institution to discuss available options.

Meeting the NREMT Remedial Education Requirement

NREMT requires additional education before a Paramedic candidate may make a fourth certification examination attempt.
Pelham’s course provides 30 hours of qualifying Paramedic remedial education designed to meet that requirement.
Students completing the course receive documentation of the education completed for submission as required.

The Purpose of Remediation

Failing the examination does not always mean a student lacks knowledge.
Sometimes the problem is cardiology.
Sometimes it is pharmacology, airway management, or medical emergencies.
Sometimes the student knows the material but struggles to interpret the question.

Some students second-guess correct answers. Others memorize isolated facts but have difficulty applying them to a patient presentation.
Effective remediation begins by figuring out why the student is missing questions.

Pelham instructors use review, discussion, patient cases, practice questions, and targeted instruction to identify those problems and work on them directly.

We are not interested only in which answer you chose. We want to know why you chose it.

Five-Day Course Outline

Day 1 — Assessment, Airway & Exam Reasoning
The course begins by establishing where the student is having difficulty.

Topics may include:
• Baseline knowledge assessment
• NREMT examination structure and question style
• Patient assessment
• Clinical decision-making
• Airway management
• Oxygenation and ventilation/ABG
• Respiratory emergencies
• Question analysis and reasoning

Students begin working through practice questions from the first day.

Day 2 — Cardiology & Resuscitation
Cardiology is a major focus for many students preparing for the Paramedic examination.

Topics may include:
• Rhythm interpretation
• 12-lead ECG interpretation
• Acute coronary syndromes
• Bradycardia and tachycardia
• Cardiac pharmacology
• Cardiac arrest
• Post-resuscitation care
• Cardiology practice questions and patient cases

The emphasis is not simply on identifying a rhythm.
Students must decide what the rhythm means for the patient and what should happen next.

Day 3 — Medical Emergencies & Pharmacology
Students work through common and complex medical presentations.

Topics may include:
• Neurologic emergencies
• Endocrine emergencies
• Toxicology
• Respiratory emergencies
• Infectious disease
• Shock
• Altered mental status
• Pharmacology
• Medication calculations
• Medication selection and contraindications
• Medical patient cases and practice questions

Day 4 — Trauma, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Special Populations
This day concentrates on areas that often require students to change how they assess and treat the patient.

Topics may include:
• Trauma assessment
• Hemorrhage and shock
• Head and chest injuries
• Burns
• Pediatric assessment
• Pediatric emergencies
• Obstetric emergencies
• Delivery and neonatal care
• Geriatric patients
• Special healthcare needs
• Mixed practice questions

Day 5 — Integration & Exam Preparation
The final day brings the material together.
Students work through mixed patient presentations and larger sets of examination-style questions.

The emphasis shifts toward:
• Recognizing what the question is actually asking
• Identifying important information in the question stem
• Eliminating incorrect choices
• Prioritizing assessment and treatment
• Avoiding common reasoning errors
•Reviewing missed questions
•Identifying remaining weak areas
•Developing an individual study plan for the next examination attempt

The goal is for students to leave knowing not only what they need to study, but how they need to approach the examination differently.

How You’ll Train

Most of this course is classroom-based and focused directly on examination preparation.

Students should expect:
• Instructor-led review
• Patient cases
• Practice questions
• ECG interpretation
• Medication and dosage problems
• Group discussion
• Individual questioning
• Clinical reasoning exercises
• Review of incorrect answers
• Test-taking strategy

Hands-on skills may be reviewed when they help clarify a clinical concept, but extensive field scenarios are not the focus of this course.
The priority is preparation for the NREMT Paramedic Certification Examination.

What We Expect from Students

Students should arrive prepared to participate.

Remediation works best when students are willing to identify areas of weakness, ask questions, accept feedback, and change study or test-taking habits that have not been working.

Students should bring any available information from previous NREMT attempts that may help identify areas requiring additional review.

Tuition

$500
Tuition includes:

  • Five days of focused Paramedic remediation
  • 30 hours of qualifying remedial education
  • Instructor-led review
  • Practice questions and patient cases
  • ECG and pharmacology review
  • Examination strategy
  • Documentation of completed remedial education

No Guarantees. Better Preparation.

No school or instructor can guarantee that a student will pass the NREMT examination.

What Pelham can provide is focused instruction, a structured review of Paramedic material, examination practice, and instructors who will work to identify the reasons a student has been unsuccessful.

The next attempt should not simply be another attempt at the same thing.
